Information and Communication Technology, or ICT *, is the name of the newest core program announced by Alberta Learning. ICT is probably the first core program to begin implementation as an integrated unit. It fundamentally changes the way students are expected to learn in all of the other core programs.
The Alberta Learning Ministry has planned for full ICT implementation as of September, 2003. Like most of the other core programs, ICT is cross-curricular. Unlike most of the other core programs ICT has no content of its own. Instead, ICT is a modification of the tools of learning for every other core program.
Alberta Learning has provided
illustrative examples * for the ICT program that consist of lessons in Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies utilizing a variety of technological tools. In some cases these suggested lesson plans require the teacher to generate resources using database, spread sheet and word processing software. Most of these lessons also require students to become familiar with and utilize similar programs to illustrate and improve the overall appearance of work assignments.

Below, the reader will find 'snapshots' from the illustrative examples provided by the Alberta Learning Ministry to help guide the province-wide implementation of ICT. For further information about this or other program changes, consult the Alberta Learning Website or view the most recent edition of its Quarterly
Newsletter *.
